Well, the first day of preschool has come and gone. I took the morning off work to watch the ship set sail and sail it did. She barley even looked back to see if we were still in the room. We were among the last of the lingering parents.

We waved to our little girl and she mouthed, “where are you going?”. I said work and mom said home but that she would be back in a couple of hours. The girl quietly said OK and we exited the room with the classroom assistant closing the door behind us.
The girl was accompanied to school by one of her best friends, the neighbor boy. While the teacher was pointing out various items in the room she mentioned the “job” board. She was very clear in pointing out that not everyone would get a job today and if you didn’t you would probably get a job the next day. The girl did not get a job. The boy did.
My wife picked up our girl and the boy a couple of hours later. She was watching the boy while his mom, a teacher, was at work. When the boys mom arrived to pick him up she asked about his day and he explained that he had the job of line leader and that he would be line leader every day.
The girl was quick to interrupt at this point.
She made it very clear that he would not be line leader every day because not everyone gets a job every day. She was kind enough to tell him his chances were pretty good for the day after that.
At least she was listening.
I think the greatest testament to raising a well-adjusted and confident child is the fact that when you send them off to school—they don’t look back.

Good job mom and dad. Sending one off to pre-school and not hanging out in the parking lot the whole day. Nicely done.

It’s amazing what they pick up on, and so quickly!

Sounds like the boy got a bit of an education too. Probably won’t be the last time, either. Way to go, girl.

Reminds me of my two older ones but of course they ran in to play and forgot all about me…LOL Wonder what the now 2 year old would do when it’s her turn in a couple of years…will she long to stay with mommy or run into another woman’s (or man) arms…

It’s funny. I used to think that having older kids gave me some insight into how the next one would be. It doesn’t, or does very little. Each of them are their own. – Thanks for the comment!
It just amazes me when children are so young and they can sound so grown up.

I know. We are a bit blown away every single day.
Thats very good news to know that your kid is learning independence at this very young age.
Independence is key in their growing up years. I believe you want to see a confident young girl and there you are witnessing your very own success in parenting. Great for you dad!
It was my daughter’s first day at nursery on Monday. Like you I took some time off from work to witness the event. Her first couple of days were a little strange for her, and there were a couple of minor tears, but I’m glad to say that today (Fri) she has run into the nursery.
I think that it has helped that she has made some friends, and is getting used to it.

It’s good to hear that Friday was smooth sailing. These transitions can be tough. Thanks for stopping by!
