You are correct, Cub Scout Groups are called a packs. We&#039;re not too strict on the naming convention.

I have sewn many fabric patches that he has recieved over the last couple of years on my son&#039;s red scout vest.  They don&#039;t count towards rank advancement, but they are earned by participating in a specific event. I call them merit badges, but a better term for them would be patches.

My son is almost nine. He turned &quot;Bear&quot; this summer at a crossover ceremony.</description>
