She calls him Peter Pan

I’m not quite sure how it happened. It seems I should have just gone along with the guinea pig.

All I’ve ever wanted to do, since meeting my wife, was give her all she wanted. Easy right?

It wasn’t so long ago, just 4 years now, that we hated our home. We wanted out more than anything but like everything else money and time ruled the day and we had to wait.

Once we got serious about this “moving to a different house” thing we, well.. we got serious about it. We had a goal to be moved before our daughter was born. Somehow the pieces fell into place and move we did just four months prior to our oldest girls birth.

It’s funny how, when something is supposed to happen (meant to happen), the way is somehow cleared. I’ve always appreciated this but find I’m not always patient enough to wait for it to happen.

It seems I was doing ok with my main objectives. My wife was excited to finally be a mother to her own children. Check. She just wanted to live someplace simple where she could have her horses on her own piece of land. Check.

My wife has wanted a pony since she was a little girl. This dream never turned into reality and all these years later she still wanted a pony, except this time she wanted it for our two girls. A pony they could learn to ride. A pony they could grow with and would allow them to participate in all the 4-H events she was exposed to.

This past weekend we got a pony. It required us to sell another horse that was given to us, and sell him to a good home we did .

The Pony’s given name is Pete, but the girl calls him Peter Pan pony. Welcome to the family Peter Pan pony and if you have your own list feel free to put a check next to “making dreams come true” .

our Peter Pan Pony

On second thought I don’t regret the guinea pig decision. You just know we would have ended up with a guinea pig AND a pony.

  • We can’t wait to upgrade to a house with land so we can have some horses, ponies, chickens, and a big huge garden!! Blogging will be super interesting then.

    Welcome Home Peter Pan!

I haven’t always been a big animal person. A dog is great, even a cat but the farm animals were never in my plan. They’ve grown on me. I’m not sure if it is how happy the women in my life are around them and it probably doesn’t matter.

We have another “5 year plan” in place. We have to shoehorn the horse pasture in place as it is. My wife would love the hobby farm you describe.

      Thanks for stopping!

  • What a great story. And I hear what you’re saying about things falling into place. I’m definitely not patience enough but we have been really blessed over the last couple of years.

Before Olivia was born, I was promoted and then a few months later I took another job (in the same company) and got another raise. It helped us pay for daycare and all the other things we were worried about.

We then were able to sell our house and move into the house we’re in now just in time. And now that Mandy is pregnant again (due in about 2 months) I was promoted again…which has really helped with the finances.

Anyway – sorry to go on and on.

@Tyler – I know what you’re saying. We’ve had many similar situations. I’m happy things are going so well for you guys!

Wow! A pony…that is like every little kids dream. So cool!

    • Chuck says:

@SWC – That’s what I thought. Of course this means our 3 year old is more convinced than ever that she is a princess. The story book is coming to life around her. :)

  • James says:

That is very cool. What could be better for little girls? I bet Peter Pan is very well loved.

Man look at all that yard space to run around in! We definitely need to move out of the suburbs and into the country! Jayden will definitely love it when he gets older!

And by the way, great story! It’s always nice when dreams come true.

@Greg – One of the things I love about our “new to us” home is the yard. It is pretty expansive. The countyr life isn’t for everyone but the kids do seem to love it. Thanks for stopping by!

  • It’s funny how, when something is supposed to happen (meant to happen), the way is somehow cleared I can’t really bring myself to believe this but that is a lovely story.

I love the space you seem to have, a great family home. Continue checking those items off the list!

@xbox4nappyrash – Did you ever believe it? I’m beginning to worry about you guys. Your post about being surprised how much room hope takes up was a killer for me. I really am convinced things are going to work for you an ET, but I’m concerned about the heart hardening that may happen in the meantime. As always, thanks for stopping by and adding to the conversation.

      • I did, absolutely, there was no doubt in my mind that we would have a family, a nice big one at that. Now, there is no certainty, physically or mentally. As for heart hardening, who knows? I certainly don’t anymore, but all that isn’t conversation for here!. Thanks for the thoughts.

The lifestyle you’ve given your family is fabulous, the world is harsh, urban life is hard, to be able to give them everything they need in such a setting is something they will always thank you for.

As always Mr Chuck, best regards.

Wow, a pony! How cool is that for little girls? What happens when they ask for a castle with a moat? Let us know if you start working on that, okay? Great story!

    • Chuck says:

It’s pretty cool, Tom. Funny you mention a moat. During the course of the winter we developed a nice dip at the end of the driveway that was pretty good at holding water. I used to joke that I wasn’t going to fill it in and instead would dig a moat to keep out the undesirables. I got “the look” on a couple of occasions and proceeded to filling it in.

    Chuck,

So glad to hear that things are falling into place for you and your wife. We could definitel not have a horse where we currently live unless it was boarded. Your post gives me hope. We moved to where we currently are about 2 years ago for what seemed to be a better job and better situation. Now having been here for 2 years we have had numerous issues that have occurred that have made us question the wisdom of our action and whether the move was the best for the entire family instead of just me with my job…so I am still waiting for everything to fall into place as you and Tyler mention,,, I know it will eventually, but I am starting to get impatient.

    • Chuck says:

Thanks Dad of Divas. The falling into place certainly didn’t happen without a lot of work on our own and depending upon who you ask there is plenty that has yet to fall. Patience is key.p.s. I updated your link in the blogroll.

  • BusyDad says:

Haha – a guinea pig it ain’t! But I guess since you can ride it, the pony wins. And a little girl can win every argument with her friends with “oh yeah? well I’ve got a pony!” WAY COOL.

Hi Jim! Yes, the pony definitely wins. A friend who recently had their first little girl thanked us for setting the bar so hi. ;)

  • soapbox mom says:

What a wonderful story, Chuck. I’m thrilled for your wife (and your little girls).

The name (Peter Pan) is perfect – the gift of the pony touches that inner child in your wife (and probably serves to help keep her young (in spirit, at the very least)).

I think it’s wonderful that all these wonderful things are happening to your family (the pony, the Wii – won due to your wonderful post about the child in you!). It’s seems to me that you’re all being true to yourselves and living life being real. It’s inspirational to me – helps me realize that it’s really okay to live that way.

    Great article/post!
