In winter’s grip

Feb 19th, 2008 | By Chuck | Category: Pointless Posts, Public Service

I really hate this time of year.

Come the middle of February one is typically done with the cold months. The unexpected harsh winds while crossing the parking lot are no longer exhilarating but truly bothersome and biting. The same coat that brought you into the season feels like it has been hanging on your shoulders for a decade.

Know what I mean?

winter

What bothers me most is I have less patience with my kids at this time of year. Unfortunately I fail to always recognize that they too have had their fill of winter and cabin fever has left a mark that only a warm breeze can erase.

I’ve been moving through my reading list (most of which you can find in the links on the right) and have certainly felt in some of the posts the tired grip of winter.

The first day of spring is only four weeks away. That’s right, weeks, not months. Rejoice!

We’re almost out gang. Hang in there.

Spring

While I appreciate the sentiment of “four weeks till Spring”, Chuck, we live in Michigan and the fact is, it won’t be spring till mid-May. And, yes, I’m a too-much-winter grumpy-pants!

Ok Karen, we may live in Michigan but this snowing raining on my parade just isn’t very becoming of you. :)

four more weeks - four more weeks - four more weeks

I think it’s just the winter blahs… everyone is ready for the weather to change and daylight to return. Even in Florida I am more than ready for the winter rain and cold to be gone. Four more weeks!

Tara - I’m sure you’re right. I must admit though that it makes me feel a wee bit better knowing you folks in sunny Florida are ready for the season to pass as well.

Spring Training has started, so I am feeling a bit feverish out here in Seattle. Plus it has been Sunny and beautiful for the last several days. I like your blog.

You know, I LOVE the rain and clouds. I lived in CO for a few years and from Feb to Oct all that sunshine nearly did me in. ug.

And no one wonders why I live in the Pacific NW. :)

I have heard tale of folk like you, wandering the rain soaked streets of Seattle with their eyes to the heavens beckoning for just one more drop. I always thought you people were a myth. :) Thanks for stopping by Emma!

I can’t wait for spring!!! I am sick from October through May every year. If it weren’t for my husband and these rugrats of mine, I’d have moved to Arizona from Ohio years ago.

Ah yes, Ohio is just as miserable as Michigan. Arizona sounds very nice. I think I’d head someplace like the coast of North Carolina. Thanks Momo!

The fact that we’ve had snow on the ground has made this year a bit more bearable. It’s the gray skies that really get me.

I may plant seedlings soon. Somehow, that seems to give springtime a push.

Happy weekend!

Hi Jeff - Yes. The longer days are a great sign of Spring. I prefer to not watch the sun rise and set from my rear view mirror on the trek to and from work.

Want to know what my Spring brings? Increased insurance rates because by 17 year old has to go on my insurance policy. I want to rewind time , by years - not weeks!

Savor the kids while they’re still not expense items. :)

I can only say, I know just what you mean. I have a 17 year old as well. Ugh.

Hey Chuck! Though I agree 100%, I still can’t help but like this time of the year when it comes to the family. Oh sure, I am at placing the last straw on the camel’s back as far as the patience is concerned, but I am really enjoying some of the face time we have been having lately. We have spent so much time in front of each other, that I am going to miss that once Little League starts, etc. I played chess with my 10 year old for the first time since….last winter!

But now they need to get out and get some freakin’ air!

Grat post, as always.

Ahhh, thanks for that, Chuck. I’m ready to go get a sweater right now, so this was nice to read. May is probably my favorite month.

But I’ll take your chant and speak it:

Four more weeks, four more weeks…

Great post!
